Bitcoin mining drives 90% of HIVE’s $1M daily revenue amid AI growth

Between Aug. 21 and Sept. 10, HIVE Digital Technologies reported that its combined average daily revenue from its Bitcoin-mining and GPU-cloud operations exceeded $1 million, shedding light on the current financial contribution of its AI pivot.

Based on HIVE’s Sept. 10 update, the GPU cloud brought in roughly $100,000 daily during this timeframe. Consequently, while the AI sector is producing operating revenue, it made up less than roughly 10% of the stated total, whereas Bitcoin mining provided more than nine out of every ten dollars.

Mining still carries the transition

Throughout the evaluated span, HIVE noted it mined an average of roughly 12 Bitcoin daily, representing about 2% of the global network’s production. These revenue metrics represent preliminary, unaudited management estimates, which the firm linked to existing operating conditions, network difficulty, and prevailing Bitcoin prices.

While the dollar value of mining output fluctuates alongside network economics and Bitcoin’s valuation, the GPU cloud establishes an operating foothold for HIVE within AI infrastructure, even though mining accounted for the vast majority of reported revenue over the timeframe.

Year to date, HIVE reported closing over $600 million in total contract value for its GPU cloud, a figure that aggregates signed customer agreements and letters of intent. The company cautioned that total contract value does not constitute recognized revenue and fails to guarantee future earnings.

This distinction arrives on the heels of August announcements detailing a $350 million AI cloud agreement, alongside the execution and financing requirements of a corresponding $185 million GPU buildout. The updated disclosure highlights an AI division that is actively generating revenue, though its substantially larger commercial pipeline still hinges on future delivery over time.

Bitcoin miners are no longer pure crypto proxies and are morphing into high-performance computing hubs

HIVE noted that these operations accounted for under 5% of its global daily revenue in August, and it plans to phase out mining at those locations.

The company is currently assessing whether to convert the sites into high-performance computing centers—the data-intensive infrastructure necessary for workloads such as artificial intelligence. HIVE has not declared the conversion finished, and its statement warned that the planned wind-down and repurposing might not unfold as anticipated.

At present, these operating metrics illustrate a transition moving at two different speeds. The AI cloud has successfully evolved into a revenue-generating venture, whereas Bitcoin mining continues to serve as the primary financial driver.

Moving forward, the primary challenge is determining whether HIVE can successfully convert a greater share of its letters of intent and signed agreements—alongside its current infrastructure—into recognized GPU-cloud revenue without sacrificing the mining cash flow that currently supports the shift.
